About 9️⃣4️⃣ percent of the food we throw away ends up in landfill‼️
• In 2015 the EPA did a study and found that we produced over 39 million tons of food waste but only 5.3 percent of that did not go to landfills.¹ Composting is one way to help lower this shocking statistic.♻️ • Composting sounds daunting, but if I can do it, so can you. 👊🏻 The facts that convinced me ➡️ you do NOT need to use worms 🐛, it does not smell, it does not attract 🐀(my fellow Chicago people will appreciate that this is not an open invitation for the rats to scurry from the alley to your patio), you can use a cute little Oscar the Grouch countertop trashcan and take that out to the larger bin about 1x week. If you don’t want to manage the compost yourself, check to see if there is a local composting program near you who does pick-ups! • ❌ meat, bones, and fatty food wastes, anything that was chemically treated, diseased 🌱, weeds that could potentially spread to the area where the compost is used, or human and pet 💩. • ✅ Branches, 🍁, twigs, wool, cotton, toothpicks, shells, coffee grounds, tea bags, fruit and veggie scraps, and even your dogs hair. • Let me know if you compost or have any tips/tricks! #NoshItFoodFacts _____ ¹ United Stated Environmental Protection Agency.
