I just went to Japan 🇯🇵 and fell in love with all things Green Tea 🍵 • Making tea is more complicated than buying a teabag at the grocery store and boiling water. After picking tea leaves from the Camelia sinesis 🌱, the leaves are steamed, rolled, and dried. • I went to a tea shop and learned that there a MANY different types of green tea 🍃(that all have complicated names) based on how the tea is processed – such as covering the plant for a few days before harvesting, roasting the leaves, adding roasted rice, picking the leaves later in the season. Seriously, who knew?! • When you make tea, you steep the 🍃 at high temperatures ♨️ but don’t worry, this does not decrease the polyphenols. The what?! • Polyphenols are found in plants (there are many different types of them, over 500) and are known for their antioxidant properties. • People drink tea for a lot of different reasons, not all of which are backed up by science but there is data that suggests drinking green tea can help lower the risk for ♥️ disease. • And of course, if you’re looking for a caffeine boost in the afternoon without the amount found in coffee, one cup of 🍵 has about 30mg of caffeine (where as one cup of ☕️has 96mg of caffeine) • #NoshItFoodFacts © Elieke Kearns, PhD, RD and Nosh.it Food Facts, 2021.
