You’ve heard of whole grains. You know they are good for you. But what exactly are they?
• Here ya go…In addition to the starchy middle part of the grain, a whole grain still has it’s outer layer of fiber (aka the bran) and the inner core which contains vitamin and healthy fats (aka the germ) • Options for whole grains: wheat, 🌽, rice, oats, barley, quinoa, sorghum, spelt, rye. DYK that popcorn is a whole grain?! • Dietary recommendation: For adults, we should aim for about 6oz (women) to 8oz (men) of grains per day. At least ½ of the grains you eat should be whole. #NoshItGoodFacts © Elieke Kearns, PhD, RD and Nosh.it Food Facts, 2021.
